Our Mission
Valkyrie Theatre Company believes in bringing a high standard of education to the community, empowering children through the fun craft of theatre arts, teaching them the values of teamwork, respect, and self-confidence. We believe the journey is just as important as the destination and every student's personal growth is important along the way.
In School Programs
In School programs are sessions that are held during the school day as part of the curriculum. These programs are designed to follow common core standards of arts education.
Our teaching artists collaborate with school staff to create lesson and performance plans and the programs can result in a small showing or a full play or musical performance.
After School Programs
After school programs can run from 3-8 months . A production team is provided to rehearse, produce and perform a play. Students can also choose to take the roles of backstage, technical , directing and design assistants. Parents can also volunteer to get involved with set building, backstage and technical assistance
Drama, Movement and Music K to 5th grade
Students will build their confidence and communication skills though exploring theatre performance. Enjoying a series of tailor made drama and /or music games and improvisations students will gain skills to perform characters and tell stories on stage.
Devise and Play! for 5th to 8th Grade and high school students.
Work with professional theatre practitioners
to create a play through devising techniques. We will learn to tell
stories using improvisation, writing techniques, play and imagination!
Incorporating songs, dances and scenes to create an original show.
Classes can take place for one or two sessions a week/can be taught by one or two teachers or a team.
Perform in a play!
Large Play productions can be produced. From Shakespeare to Musicals!
Other classes/play productions available upon requests, we can tailor make courses to fit your curriculum, special needs included.
The key to successful partnerships
The Programs
Valkyrie Theatre Company's School Partnership Program offers in-school and after -school theatre programs for elementary, middle and high schools in all school districts in the Sacramento area. All programs work towards either a final presentation or a fully produced play or musical.
Every school has different educational needs and budgets, Valkyrie has found the key to a successful partnership is to tailor to the needs of the school site. Programs are creatively designed to meet these needs by professional and experienced Theatre Educators.
Examples of Programs
Valkyrie is founded by Alison Gilbreath and Jenny Connors who have a combined 50 years of experience in Theatre Arts. They are trained theatre artists who have experience and training in performance, teaching, directing, writing, and producing. Gilbreath and Connors are committed provide a creative, nurturing haven through its seven core values and solid foundation of integrity and respect for each other and the craft to create innovative and inspiring work held to the highest standards of theatrical art.
